Medication Assisted Treatment
Understanding Your Options
Do I Need Medication-Assisted Treatment?
Medication assisted treatment, or MAT is a form of addiction recovery that involves both therapy and medically-supervised pharmaceutical care. Medications used in MAT must be approved by the FDA and administered by licensed physicians who meet a series of stringent standards for addiction medicine. MAT is most effective for people trying to overcome opioid addiction because the medicine involved helps block the brain-altering effects of the drug.
How MAT Works
MAT relies on two central components: an opioid-blocking medicine such as naltrexone, methadone, or buprenorphine and ongoing clinical addiction therapy and support. While the medicine blocks the effectiveness of opioid drugs in the brain, clinical therapy helps clients learn the tools and skills they need to live more fulfilling sober lives.
MAT at Solution Based Treatment
At Solution Based, we believe in providing our clients with the best possible research-supported treatments available in the field. That’s why we’re proud to include MAT as an option for our clients who are struggling with opioid addiction and could benefit from additional support from carefully supervised medical interventions.
After they complete our detox programs, all clients receive information about MAT, including the positives and negatives of the treatment, so they can make an informed decision. Participation is voluntary and is fully supervised by our medical team. We currently use three different varieties of anti-craving medication for clients:
- Oral Naltrexone
- Injectable Naltrexone (Vivitrol)
Clients undergo a sensitivity test prior to being administered medication to ensure it will be properly received.
Supervised Treatment and Care
A key element of MAT at Solution Based is supervision from our medical team, which includes MD, PA, and CMA professionals. Our team has extensive experience in addiction medicine, including overseeing and managing pharmaceutical treatments such as Vivitrol, Suboxone, and methadone for recovery alongside therapy and other clinical treatments.
Insurance Accepted for Medication Assisted Treatment
Many insurance providers support MAT and provide coverage to assist with treatment. If you’re a good candidate for MAT, talk to us about whether your health insurance carrier provides MAT coverage and how to get started with the recovery process.
